My family had the meal for dinner last night.
I was at work and had no idea what to expect when I got home.
After the meal, I found myself asking questions about the ingredients and preparing the meal.
What’s in the family meal?
How did it all go down?
How long did it take?
What’s my family’s favourite food?
Who’s on the menu?
All of these questions, I thought, would be helpful for any cook trying to learn how to make family meals.
The answer is simple: it’s not easy.
It’s a bit like going through a checklist of ingredients and then making a batch of the same ingredients and expecting the same result.
I’ve been on a journey to learn more about making my own meals.
I’m not an expert on this topic and I’m sure many of you are not either.
So I thought I’d share some of my tips with you.
I started by making the basic ingredients.
This means you’ll need: flour, salt, sugar, water, eggs, butter, salt and baking powder.
I used a combination of flour and cornmeal but you could use any flour you like.
I made the meal by combining the flour and water in a bowl and using a fork to mix it up.
Then I mixed in the eggs.
I like to add a bit of butter at the start and then slowly add the salt and sugar.
Next I made a roux and mixed it in the bowl with the flour mixture.
Finally, I put the batter in the fridge and made sure I had enough to fill the bowl.
Once the batter was completely solid, I poured it into a greased 9×13 baking pan.
Then, I sprayed it with non-stick cooking spray and set it in a 400º oven for about 30 minutes.
You can also make the meal in advance, which is a bit trickier.
To make the roux, start by making a rouxe in a large bowl.
Pour the flour into the rouxe.
Then add the baking powder and the salt.
Stir until the mixture comes together and the flour is thoroughly mixed.
Now add the eggs, salt to taste, and the butter and mix until the dough comes together.
If you want to make it more easily, you can add some more butter to the batter.

You should have about a quarter of the dough.
After 30 minutes, the rouge should have doubled in size.
When it’s done, turn the oven off and put the dough in a greasing dish or a large baking pan, covered with a towel.
Add a little water if it’s still wet.
Put the pan back on the stove and cook for about 3-5 minutes until the rouve is golden brown and bubbly.
Remove from the heat and cool on a rack for a few minutes.
To make the egg and butter, I used half of a bowl of egg whites.
I placed them on a baking sheet and put them on top of the rouxy and dough.
Bake at 350º for 30-45 minutes until golden brown.
Then, put the remaining half of the egg whites on top and bake for about 5-10 minutes until bubbly and golden.
And lastly, pour the rouxa into the egg mixture.
The rouxa can also be put in a blender or food processor.
If the rouxphere is too dry, just add a little milk.
